Woven by hand on a traditional loom, embroidered silk tapestry pays homage to the distinctive organic motifs of California midcentury modernism. Recreated from an original 1961 design by Los Angeles artist Evelyn Ackerman, the black and white pattern takes its color cue from the original negative of an archival photograph from which the tapestry is faithfully reproduced. Silk tapestry is presented in a black mango wood frame. CB2 exclusive.
Detroit native Evelyn Ackerman founded ERA Industries in 1956 with her husband, Jerome. For 50 years, the Los Angeles-based couple played a central role in shaping the California midcentury modern movement. Ackerman's first woven tapestry design was featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine in 1957. Presented in collaboration with Ackerman Modern, the pieces in this collection recreate the couple's iconic midcentury designs using original drawings and archival photographs.
